“Acetal” (POM) is the generic material name. “Delrin” is DuPont’s brand name for acetal homopolymer. Delrin offers slightly higher strength and stiffness, while generic acetal copolymer offers better hot-water and chemical resistance.

Acetal is significantly stronger and more rigid than HDPE or UHMW. It has high tensile strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and maintains its shape under load. This makes it suitable for high-precision, high-wear mechanical parts.

Most acetal copolymer grades are food-safe and compliant with FDA/EFSA requirements. They are used in food machinery components because they resist moisture, do not absorb odours, and maintain stability under repeated cleaning.
