PTFE can be cut, CNC-machined, skived, welded (in limited specialised ways), and shaped. It is softer than engineering plastics, so sharp tooling and proper fixturing are required for clean results. For complex fabrication, CNC machining is recommended.

PTFE sheets are commonly available from 1 mm up to 50 mm thick, in full sheets (typically 1200 × 1200 mm or 600 x 600mm depending on the manufacturer).
